Beginner 1 is an introductory course to swimming that assists with water acclimation, and water safety, and lays the foundation for stroke, learn to swim lessons.
Beginner 2 builds upon the stroke foundation laid in beginner 1, builds endurance through increasing distance, and teaches treading basics.
Youth intermediate swimming instruction is tailored to the needs of each student. Each student skill is assessed and students are grouped with like-skilled students. Our certified and professional staff make lessons fun and specialize in turning fearful swimmers into confident swimmers through this intermediate course to swimming that assists with learning and mastering strokes and building endurance.

This highly engaging class allows your child to get comfortable in the water, while parents learn water safety skills to help reduce the risk of infant drowning. A parent or guardian must be in the water with the child. Our parent and tot class starts at the age of 4 months and they will age out at 2 years old.
Toddler 1 is an introduction to water comfort and independence, focusing on acclimation, learning to wait their turn, safe entry and exits. All students, ages 2 - 4 years of age, who are new to our program or have aged out of parent and tot must take this class. In this class, students transition from dependence on the guardian to independent comfort in the water. They learn safety skills such as waiting for permission to enter the water, climbing in and out of the pool, holding their breath, and survival skills like rolling onto their back to float, rest, and breathe. This class is a Prerequisite for Toddler II. The ratio is 1 instructor to 3 students.
Toddler 2 is an intermediate toddler class for toddlers 3 - 4 years of age, who have completed Toddler I. Students MUST have taken Toddler I to take this class. This class focuses on building the foundation for strokes that they will expand on in the youth beginner class. It focuses on swimming with legs and arms on the front and back, jumping in and making it to the wall, and rolling from front to back, all independently. Students in this level will age out when they turn 5 and into Beginner I or will graduate upon mastery and go into Beginner II. The ratio is 1 instructor to 5 students.
Prerequisite Skill: They are able to float and glide on their front and back unassisted.
Description: This clinic will be teaching and helping students improve flutter kick, the kick we use for freestyle and backstroke. Flutterkick provides balance during our strokes and is crucial for efficiency.
Prerequisite Skill: They are able to submerge comfortably, float, and glide on their front and back unassisted.
Description: This clinic will be teaching and helping students submerge to the pool floor at varying depths to retrieve objects. This will help with depth perception and orientation.
Prerequisite Skill: No prerequisite skills are required.
Description: This clinic will be teaching students breathing techniques to help them move on from breath holding, aid in water comfort, and create more efficient breathing while swimming.
Prerequisite Skill: They are able to swim on their front and back unassisted (Beginner 2 and up)
Description: This clinic will be teaching rollovers (recovery position), which is turning over on your back for air. Individuals proficient in this skill will progress to side breathing, which is how we breathe during freestyle.
Prerequisite Skill: Intermediate swimmers who have been introduced to breaststroke but struggle with the mechanics.
Description: This clinic will be correcting breaststroke kicks, arms, and timing to help with proficiency of the stroke.
Prerequisite Skill: Beginner swimmers who can swim independently on their back.
Description: This clinic will be correcting backstroke kicks, arms, and timing to help with proficiency of the stroke.
Prerequisite Skill: They are able to float and glide on their front and back unassisted.
Description: This clinic will be teaching and helping students improve flutter kicks, the kick we use for freestyle and backstroke. Flutterkick provides balance during our strokes and is crucial for efficiency.
Prerequisite Skill: Intermediate swimmers or beginner 2 swimmers comfortable in the deep end, who can resurface and get to the wall unassisted.
Description: This clinic will be teaching kneeling and standing dives.
Prerequisite Skill: Intermediate swimmers proficient in freestyle and backstroke who can swim a recognizable breaststroke.
Description: This clinic will be teaching and helping students improve flip turns and open turns. Flip turns are used during freestyle and backstroke to change direction when reaching the end of the pool. Open turns are used for breaststroke and butterfly.
Prerequisite Skill: Deepwater comfort and ability to get to pool side from up to 2 ft away without panicking.
Description: This clinic is for beginner 2 and up swimmers looking to learn the basic mechanics or improve their treading.
Prerequisite Skill: Instructor candidates who are new to teaching students in courses similar to those offered by the Red Cross must meet the following criteria:
1. Successfully complete the online course prior to an in-person skills session.
2. Successfully complete the in-person skills session.
3. Prior to teaching your first class, an Instructor must become affiliated with or become a Red Cross Training Provider with a signed agreement to teach classes, report Red Cross courses taught and issue certificates.
Description: American Red Cross Instructors are a highly trained, elite group of professionals. They teach valuable lifesaving skills to an average of 5.8 million people a year in businesses, schools and communities.
Prerequisite Skill: Anyone can take the class, just have to pass the class.

Designed, and taught by experts, Red Cross first aid certification courses are OSHA compliant and affordable. With online, in-person or blended learning course formats, you can quickly earn your first aid certification in the way that suits you best.
With a half-million cardiac arrests each year, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can help save a life if a person's breathing or heart stops. It's not just for healthcare workers and emergency responders. In fact, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival when bystanders take action. The American Red Cross helps train you safely, effectively and confidently, so you're prepared for the minutes that matter the most.
Prerequisite Skill: All lifeguarding participants must complete the required swimming skills prerequisite prior to taking the course. The prerequisite skills assessments include a swim-tread-swim and a timed event sequence.
Throughout the course, participants will learn and be evaluated on knowledge and skills related to lifeguarding, water rescues, extrications, CPR and AED and First Aid.
In addition, at the conclusion of the course, participants must successfully complete 3 final skills assessments:
1. Rotate in-conduct surveillance – rotate out
2. Timed Single-rescuer CPR Scenario
3. Multiple Rescuer Response Scenario
Participants are required to take one final written exam consisting of 50 questions and score a minimum of 80%.
Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding certification course will be issued one of the following certifications depending on the Lifeguarding course completed. For example, participants that successfully complete the Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, will be issued a certification valid for 2 years.
Description: The RedCross Lifeguarding program prepares lifeguards to prevent, protect and respond to aquatic emergencies. Our nationally accepted curriculum has been refreshed with modernized tools and includes more active hands-on learning. This revitalized program aligns with the most current scientific insights and best practices, validated by the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council.
Water fitness is one of the best cardiovascular workouts! This instructor-led, 60-minute class will incorporate cardio and strength using various water resistance techniques and water dumbbells. Low-medium impact class is performed in shallow water and is designed to improve joint stability, coordination, heart health, and strength. Join our weekly Water Fitness class to exercise and have fun!
